Camera settings

  • Mode: Manual (M)

  • Shutter speed: 1/200

  • ISO: 100–200

Mirrorless cameras

  • Turn OFF exposure preview / exposure simulation / live view exposure
    (wording varies by brand)

If your camera screen is dark it’s because it’s showing you what the settings will be when the flash fires, when the flash isn’t firing(!)

Flash system

Studio uses Elinchrom lights and triggers.

Check:

  • Trigger fully seated in hot shoe and locked on

  • Trigger switched ON

  • Lights powered ON

  • Trigger and lights on the same channel

Common mistakes

  • Shooting in Aperture Priority or Auto

  • Shutter speed faster than sync speed

  • Exposure preview left on (mirrorless)
